Shoelace Aglets: What They Are & How to Choose Yours
The aglet is the firm little tip on each end of your lace — it stops fraying and makes threading easy. On Pear laces it’s also a styling choice: pick plastic, chrome or a coloured tip to finish your laces off.

Aglet FAQs
What is an aglet?
An aglet is the small, firm tip on each end of a shoelace. It binds the fibres so the lace doesn’t fray, and keeps the end stiff so it threads easily through eyelets.
Can I choose the aglet finish on my laces?
Yes. Chrome (metal) and coloured tips can go on any lace, while plastic tips come on our budget laces in selected lengths. You set the finish when you order — for example on our 3mm round wax laces.
What are aglets made of?
Usually plastic or metal. Our plastic tips are light and cost-effective, while our chrome tips are metal for a premium finish. For more background, see our blog on what aglets are and why they matter.
Do all laces come with the same aglet?
No. Our cheapest laces come with plastic tips on selected lengths, while chrome and coloured tips are available right across the range on any lace.
Are metal aglets better than plastic?
Neither is “better” — plastic is light and budget-friendly for everyday laces, while chrome metal looks more premium and suits dress or statement laces. Both do the same job of stopping fraying.
